Description

The Washington Resource Group (WRG) is seeking an experienced legal professional to (i) provide news and content review, triage, and research support to top-caliber lawyers and technical experts with support to retirement, health and welfare benefits, executive compensation, compensation, labor and employment law, tax, ERISA, health reform, and other human resource topics, (ii) assist in the review and development of Mercer and third-party content for consultants and clients, and (iii) work with clients of Mercer on appropriate issues and projects.

The primary geographic focus would be the United States, but it's a plus if the candidate also has experience relating to Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe and multi-national and cross-border companies and situations (e.g., companies operating in multiple countries, expatriate employees).

The ideal candidate will have a passion for doing great work, continuously learning and improving, effectively analyzing and communicating developments and insights, and regularly exceeding consultants' and clients' expectations.

The legal professional will:

* Regularly review and triage key sources and publications for content about specific developments and topics, including proposed and adopted federal and state legislation, regulations, administrative guidance, court decisions, plan design and operations, corporate proxies and 10-K statements, employer/plan sponsor associations, and other content relevant to legal consulting.
* Prepare summaries, reports and analyses about the content relevant to consultants and clients, and connect it to other Mercer and third-party content already available to Mercer consultants and clients.
* Develop and maintain contacts with key government officials and staff on relevant issues.
* Support (with other experts) the development of indepth analyses of key developments and topics.
* Work with consultants on prospects and client tasks and projects calling for relevant assistance, including proposals, engagement letters, statements of work, project management, research, meetings, preparing and reviewing deliverables (much of this would be chargeable to clients).
* Support the delivery of content and intellectual capital via Mercer's internal and external website and email products, in written, audio, video, and other formats.

Qualifications

* At least six years of legal experience in the retirement, health and welfare benefit, executive compensation, compensation, labor and employment law, tax and ERISA, health reform, and other human resource areas
* Law degree, paralegal certificate, or comparable experience
* Experience working in a law, accounting, or consulting firm context with corporate and, if appropriate, trustee clients
* Experience providing excellent content and research support
* Strong analytical, critical thinking, proactivity, and innovation capabilities
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, particularly the ability to communicate technically complex developments, issues, and analyses in easy-to-understand and actionable ways
* Organized, accurate, detail-oriented and responsive
* Strong Word, Excel, and PowerPoint capabilities
* Able to work effectively in an uncertain and ambiguous environment, balancing competing goals and risks, and moving forward proactively and confidently (driving projects to completion)
* Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently and in a team environment
* Able to meet tight deadlines and prioritize a varied workload in a fast paced, unpredictable, and demanding environment
* Willing to learn new skills, expand knowledge of subject areas, and adapt to technological and business changes.
* Honest, direct, highly ethical and able to build meaningful relationships based on trust and integrity
