Occupational Health Supervisor
Job Summary
The Occupational Health Supervisor provides expertise and knowledge of medical, health and safety regulations, laws and UPS protocols by providing and delivering cost-effective health and safety services to employees. He/she is responsible for developing injury and illness prevention strategies, providing occupational health expertise, managing vendors, and performing case management. This individual assists the district case manager and works with labor relations, health and safety, and human resources. The Occupational Health Supervisor also works with other groups involved in occupational health (e.g., risk management, benefits, legal representatives, physicians, nurses, vendors, employees, etc.).
The Occupational Health Supervisor is responsible for workers’ compensation, disability, and other case management. This involves evaluating individual cases to ensure employees are receiving their financial and medical benefits, conducting follow-up meetings with attending physicians and other medical providers to address medical concerns relating to employees’ progress, periodically monitoring and reviewing the performance of nurse case managers, and assisting with case resolution. An additional core responsibility of this position is to develop prevention strategies. This individual monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of UPS’s Occupational Health programs and suggests improvements, promotes healthy behaviors, and works with others to develop and implement prevention plans and programs.
A major responsibility of this position is to coordinate and manage occupational health vendors and services. The chief duty is to establish a primary medical care network for employees by recruiting UPS designated physicians and clinics in delivery service locations to provide quality care at negotiated rates. The Occupational Health Supervisor evaluates the care and quality of physician/clinic services, supervises medical vendor activities to ensure medical and worker regulatory compliance, and tracks costs, trends and outcomes. This position also provides occupational health consultation. Duties include acting as a liaison and medical consultant to human resources and operations groups, conducting site visits, and developing and delivering educational workshops related to health, safety, disability and benefits issues. He/she also maintains all necessary certifications, licenses and up-to-date occupational health knowledge, and stays current with state and federal laws and regulations (e.g., Family and Medical Leave Act [FMLA], Americans with Disability Act [ADA], Departments of Transportation [DOT] and Labor [DOL]) that may impact UPS’s medical protocols and procedures.
Other Duties
Assist district case managers, supervisors and worker’s compensation supervisors with complex medical cases, disputes (hearings, mediations, etc.) and work transition programs
Work with labor relations by providing advice on regulatory procedures, and acting as liaison and consultant on medically related grievances and collective bargaining issues
Ensure staff development by coaching and providing feedback and verifying that employees have career goals and plans
Conduct performance evaluations and resolve individual and group performance issues
Identify opportunities for advancing skills and capabilities

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Basic Qualification for Employment
Must be a Registered Nurse (RN)
Must be in the same geographic location as the job or willing to relocate yourself there
If required, must be willing to travel
A bachelor's degree is preferred
A certification in Occupational Health Nursing (COHN) is preferred
A certification in Case Management (CCM) is preferred
Willingness to work flexible shift hours is preferred
Experience using Microsoft office products or equivalent software is preferred
