  • The CELA Compliance & Ethics team plays a key role in supporting Microsoft's mission by fostering a culture of compliance, ethics and trust through world class counseling, programs and investigations. The Compliance Design & Advisory practice within CELA Compliance & Ethics provides design advisory for Microsoft's partner & supplier compliance programs, performing complex deal review for strategic deals, conducting and publishing geography risk assessment, establishing compliance by design principles for Microsoft's licensing and commerce platforms, and advising on enterprise-wide remediation initiatives.

    Preferred Location

    Redmond, WA is preferred but this position can be flexible on location


    • Build strategic relationships across internal groups, including a close partnership across Microsoft Customer and Partner Solutions (MCAPS), CELA and Finance to deliver nuanced compliance advice on complex deals

    • Manage the intake; review; and customized remediation for a portfolio of complex deals. Evolve customized remediation for complex deals into programmatic legal & design guidance for MCAPS, CELA, and Finance teams.

    • Communicate with the senior leadership and/or compliance officers of global partners regarding complex deal frameworks

    • Lead or assist with legal guidance and design advisory for enterprise-wide remediation initiatives

    • Assist with the re-imagining of next generation geography and third-party risk assessments

    • Work collaboratively across CELA; finance compliance; MBO; Engineering; CO+I, and Commercial Licensing to provide compliance support for major launches

    • Contribute to the success of the C&E CELA strategic imperatives in areas such as OneCompliance community building, prioritizing data driven insights, and building compliance culture


    Required Qualifications

    • Juris Doctorate Degree or Equivalent International Degree or Completion of a Legal Apprenticeship.

    • Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.

    • 3+ years experience as a practicing attorney or equivalent practice of law.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • A passion for compliance.

    • 1+ years of experience in dealing with compliance, preferably with complex deals review experience, in or behalf of a multi-national company or other large complex organization.

    • Strong knowledge of risks and associated preventative and detective controls, and their design.

    • The ability to effectively manage a portfolio of projects and activities across multiple business areas, functions, and geographies in order to deliver positive, impactful results.

    • Ability to establish, build, and maintain productive, collaborative relationships across Microsoft and being an outstanding "Team Player".

    • Strong communication skills and demonstrated experience in speaking internally and externally.

    • Willing to travel if required (and when it is safe to do so).
