Associate Intellectual Property ManagerAre you looking to be part of a motivated, highly visible team with a cutting edge medical technology industry leader? In the role of Associate Intellectual Property Manager, you will provide comprehensive, intellectual property support to the Division including: strategic patent portfolio development, various patent searches, training, as well as support third party acquisition initiatives by performing IP due diligence. Our top candidates will be technically strong engineers who have worked in the R&D realm and have an interest in Intellectual Property.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities • Review invention disclosures and guide patenting decisions. • Liaise with outside counsel in preparation, filing and prosecution of patent applications. • Investigate development status, plans to commercialize inventions, novelty, etc. to support decisions to file corresponding international patents. • Analyze and work with outside counsel to respond to Office Actions. • Investigate patent utilization, commercial offensive and defensive value to help make decisions to maintain or abandon patents. • Initiate patentability, right to use, and state of art patent searches. • Support and participate in all aspects of patent assertions and defenses; including but not limited to: leading discovery initiatives, supporting witness selection and scheduling depositions.
Qualifications/Work Experience
• 5 years experience in development and research in the medical device industry or other appropriate, related industry. • Demonstrated expertise in the function, design, performance and clinical use of mechanical systems, electrical systems and medical instrumentation. • Applied understanding of USPTO patent prosecution processes. • Demonstrated ability to perform IP searches. • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. • Demonstrated ability to influence others. • Demonstrated ability to be effectively/appropriately assertive in order to challenge concepts and inspire innovation. • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Education and/or Special Training
Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering as specific position requires.
